Sea Dog Theater in association with Olmsted Salon Presents:
“This courtroom drama is based on the 1925 Scopes “Monkey Trial,” in which a Tennessee teacher was charted with teaching that man evolved from apes, instead of state-mandated Creationism. The drama contains a powerful confrontation between a character based on William Jennings Bryan, who believes only what he reads in the Bible, and another based on Clarence Darrow, who defends science and open intellectual inquiry.
“Sea Dog Theater produces new and established work that addresses questions of alienation and reconciliation. We believe that great theater offers us opportunities in paying attention and cultivating compassion. With an emphasis on hospitality, our mission is to build a community of artists and theater-goers that join in the conversation of how reconciliation can take place in our daily lives. We are in residency at Olmsted Salon, a program of Calvary/St. George’s Church in Manhattan, sponsored by the Gramercy Park Block Association.”
